Frequently Asked Questions

What is pressing?
After the bat has been correctly graded and machined, the next stage is the pressing. The willow fibers have to be compressed in order to strengthen the timber sufficiently to withstand the impact of a cricket ball. But as pressing is a delicate balance between hardening the top layer of willow for strength and leaving the rest of the blade soft enough to create a trampoline effect, over pressing and under pressing can both lead to the bat turning out “dead”.

Why English Willow?
English willow (Salix Alba Caerulea)has been used since the early 1700’s and continues to be used today. Offering far superior rebound qualities when compared to Kashmir Willow. English Willow should be every cricketers first choice.

What are the benefits of going handmade?
Each piece of English Willow has been nurtured, with the upmost care, from sapling to tree for the first 15-20 years of its life. We handpick our clefts, we hand shape our clefts using traditional Podshaving tools. Each bat gets the same treatment from start to finish regardless of grade.

I don't like my bat can I return it?
This is highly unlikely as we believe that our cricket bats are some of the best out there. But if you are unhappy in way with your purchase, we will be happy to give you a full refund. Provided the bat is returned in the same condition it left our headquarters in and you pay the postage and packaging costs back to us.
